June 7, 2022Dana is pleased and proud to announce she recently earned her Peer Specialist Certification!
A certified peer specialist is an individual who has a “lived experience” and, in turn, has been trained to support those who struggle with similar physical or mental ailments. Drawing on her personal experience as a stroke survivor, Dana possesses expertise that no amount of professional training can replace.
As a peer support specialist, Dana aims to assist other stroke survivors as they work to define their goals for recovery and learn and practice new skills, in addition to helping them monitor their progress. Dana’s peer support practice also includes modeling coping techniques she exercised in her recovery to help fellow survivors as they navigate their path to restoration.
These are essentially the same activites Dana practices in her now long ongoing work as a Stroke Recovery Support Group Facilitator, but her certification training sharpens her skills and expands the degree of support she’s able to provide to other survivors.
